Verse of the Day

"She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs without fear of the future When she speaks, her words are wise, and she gives instruction with kindness."

Woman of Proverbs

I remember first being married and reading Proverbs 31 in the Bible. I was sure that I would never measure up to this perfect woman. It seemed like she did everything perfect. When you continue to read through the chapter it says towards the end that her children arise and call her blessed and her husband sings her praises. Now there is a part of me that just laughs because I think on some days my kids may say a lot of things about me but blessed is not one of them and my husband, well I don't know that everyday he sings my praises, although I would like to think so.

Through the years, though, the Lord has really shown me what these verses mean. They really are qualities to strive towards as a Christian mother and wife. I use to think that staying home and taking care of the house and kids was okay. It seemed like that was what I was suppose to be doing. When you read these passages of scripture, it makes me realize that it really is an honor and privilege to be at home.

I recently read this statement "Homemaking is unique in combining the most menial jobs with the most meaningful tasks: it is a challenge to accommodate others without losing one's own identity; it is a demanding pursuit, but the fringe benefits are terrific!"

I love being home and taking care of my home, my children, and my husband. I strive to be the woman in Proverbs as should all of us. I long for the day when my children raise up and call me blessed and my husband sings my praises-Proverbs 31:28. William Booth the founder of the Salvation Army said this about his wife Catherine at the time of her death: "To me she has been made of God, never failing sympathy, reliable wisdom, and unvarnished truth-in short, all that is noble and good; and consequently a tower of strength, a mine of wealth, and an everflowing fountain of comfort and joy." Beautiful words from a husband that loved his wife very much and a woman that I believe strived to be the woman God desired her to be. My challenge to you is to open up your Bible and read Proverbs 31:10-31 today and ask the Lord to help you be that woman. But may I also warn you not to beat yourself up if you stumble as you strive to be this woman. It is really through Jesus' strength alone that we can be the women that God calls us to be. Call on that strength and strive for it, understanding that the journey is paved with grace from above.

The true Proverbs 31 woman is one who strives for this, undertanding that perfection will never be attainable on this side of Heaven. It is a privilege to strive for it and it is so humbling to know that God covers his daughters with grace as they strive.

Memorize this verse today:

"She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs without fear of the future When she speaks, her words are wise, and she gives instruction with kindness."
~Proverbs 31:25-26
