Today's Devotional Thought
February 15, 2013 by Rachel Piferi
This week, I was thinking about the last time that I saw a dear, sweet friend before she went to be with the Lord. It was a winter afternoon a couple of years ago and Wendy and I had gone to visit this dear friend in her home in Maryland. She was facing a surgery for oral cancer, a cancer that she had battled for many years. She was one of our dearest friends and always the picture of grace and the joy of the Lord.
Even in her trials.
In fact, on that precious afternoon that we went to see her, she greeted us with her usual grace and kindness. And she led us to her living room where she had prepared a spread of food for us. Food that she could not eat, but prepared for us to enjoy.
She was the picture of service and hospitality, even in these last days of her life.
At one point during our visit with her, Wendy and I sat and prayed with our precious friend.
And then Wendy began to sweetly sing...
Surely the presence of the Lord is in this place
I can feel God's mighty power and God's grace
I can hear the brush of angel's wings
I see glory on each face
Surely the presence of the Lord is in this place.
It was a moment with two dear sisters in the Lord that I will remember for the rest of my life.
As we approach the weekend, I pray that you will be able to feel the presence of the Lord strongly. As you worship and as you spend time with your family and friends this weekend, I pray that you feel his power and grace and love. And I pray that you have the opportunity to lead others to God's presence.
There is truly nothing like being in the presence of the Lord. Seek it this weekend.
