Today's Devotional Thought
March 01, 2013 by Wendy Foreman
Earlier in the week, Rachel wrote a devotional about the small community that we live in. She told you when we face tragedies in our small town we pull together. Well I want to shout a hearty AMEN to that!
We lost a very dear and godly man in our church this week. His death has left a huge void in our church and in our lives. He was a man that my husband, as a pastor, appreciated. He knew that he could go to him for godly counsel and advice. He had such wisdom and spiritual insight. He was an encourager and exuded the love of Jesus to all who knew him.
He was the man who sat in Wednesday night and Sunday night bible study hour and asked the questions that made you stop and really think. My favorite quote of his was this, "I see nowhere in the Bible where it says we are to be comfortable." I will miss this man deeply but I know that even if he could come back he wouldn't. He left a tremendous legacy for those of us here to follow. He was a faithful man who believed the promises of God and lived his life as such.
I have asked myself what will people say when I am gone. Will they remember that I was a godly woman? Will they remember me as a wonderful wife and mother? Will they make comments about how I shined the love of Jesus to all those I came in contact with?
Oh friends, when I leave this world my prayer is that I will have been Jesus to those around me. That I will have loved others, felt compassion for those who were hurting, and served those who needed it most. My prayer is that I will have made a difference for Jesus.
I will miss my friend, but I smile as I think of how he was greeted by Jesus this past Sunday night. Oh what a reunion that must have been!
