Verse of the Day

"Only be careful, and watch yourselves closely so that you do not forget the things your eyes have seen or let them fade from your heart as long as you live. Teach them to your children and to their children after them."

Tell of His Faithfulness

On Friday night, I had the opportunity to speak to a group of ladies at an evening retreat that a local church had. And I was able to tell my favorite story: Isabella's story.

Oh how I love telling her story.

As I was preparing for the evening and as I was sharing pieces of the story with the ladies that night, I was once again overcome with the awesomeness of what God did in her little life. Oh what a powerful reminder of God's sovereignty and power and might she is to me.

As I was reflecting on the evening this week, I was reminded of how important it is to tell our stories. To reflect on the mighty things the Lord has done.

One of my favorite examples of this is in the first part of the book of Deuteronomy. In Chapter 1 of Deuteronomy, the Israelites are on the bank of the Jordan River, ready to enter Canaan, their Promised Land. After 40 years of wondering in the wilderness, the Lord has determined that it is time to claim the land that he promised to Abraham (Genesis 15). And as the Israelites stand their poised to take this land, Moses leads them through a history of where they have been.

In the first four chapters of Deuteronomy, Moses reflects on God's faithfulness to them in the past. How he has fought for them, provided for them, and led them. And with a reminder this God's faithfulness, Moses also urges them to always remember God's commands and the blessings that come with fully obeying God.

Reflect on God's faithfulness.

and

Follow God's commands.

For the Israelites to take over Canaan, it most definitely was going to take the power of God. In fact, it was the overwhelmingness of this fight that led the Israelites to doubt they could claim the land 40 years previous to this moment. They lost sight of the promise and power of God and did not get to enter then. But now, they stand there, ready to enter and Moses is reminding them of where they have been with God to give them the confidence to step forward into the fight of their life.

Every time I have the opportunity to tell a story of God's faithfulness in my life, I am so encouraged. The retelling of God's stories gives me such confidence and courage going forward. It was no different for the Israelites than it is for you and for me.

We must continue telling our stories of God's faithfulness so that we can continue spurring each other on to all that God has for each one of us in our Promised Lands.

Oh friends, this life is a battle. And God wants so much for us, but we have to believe him and fight like mad sometimes to get there. And reflecting on his faithfulness helps us muster up that courage that we so often need as we are fighting forward.

God is so faithful and he is so loving and he can be trusted. Share your stories with one another and be reminded of his faithfulness as you continuing living this life and moving towards your Promised Land.

Memorize this verse today:

"Only be careful, and watch yourselves closely so that you do not forget the things your eyes have seen or let them fade from your heart as long as you live. Teach them to your children and to their children after them."
~Deuteronomy 4:9
