Verse of the Day

"When Moses' hands grew tired, they took a stone and put it under him and he sat on it. Aaron and Hur held his hands up - one on one side, one on the other - so that his hands remained steady till sunset."

~Exodus 17:12

Hold Their Hands Up

Do you ever feel tired and weary?

As we read today's verse, we see that Moses is holding his hands up while Joshua and his men are in a battle with their enemies. As we read on in the Scripture we discover that as long as Moses holds his hands up, Joshua and his men are victorious. But if he puts his hands down, they begin to lose. Aaron and Hur come alongside Moses in his tired state and help him by holding his hands up. They become an encouragement to him. They are what I like to call friends who are standing in the gap.

Do you have someone like that in your life?

The truth is this life is tough. We will find ourselves and those we love in a battle weary state at some point on this journey. When we find ourselves there do we have an Aaron and Hur in our lives? A friend or friends who will be standing in the gap? I think this is very important for everyone to have.

Rachel and I have shared many times about having a ladies bible study that we lead together. This group of women has become so very special to us and we have come to see among these women a sense of accountability. Not only that, but also a real love for one another so much so that I know that some of those women are standing in the gap for one another. If you are not involved in a small group like this I really encourage you to. The fellowship and closeness is so sweet and precious.

As I close today I want to leave you with another verse: "This world is not our permanent home, we are looking forward to our home yet to come" (Hebrews 13:14).

We will have battles in this life but I pray you surround yourself with friends who will be standing in the gap for you. One day, we will say good bye to this home and hello to an eternity with Jesus.

But until then, we battle and grow weary. But thank God he gives us very special people to hold our hands up until the battle is over.

Memorize this verse today:

"When Moses' hands grew tired, they took a stone and put it under him and he sat on it. Aaron and Hur held his hands up - one on one side, one on the other - so that his hands remained steady till sunset."
~Exodus 17:12
