You are Not Alone
“I love you, too” were the last words Nick Schuyler heard from his best friend before he watched him die and he found himself alone in the middle of the Gulf of Mexico. In his recently released book, Not Without Hope, Schuyler tells the story of how he and three friends struggled for life after their boat capsized during a fishing trip in February of last year. When he was pulled from the water, it was reported that all he said was, “They’re all gone. They’re all gone.”
I can only imagine what Nick feels like as he retells this story of struggle and loss. The only other people who know what that experience felt like on the boat are all gone. And, no matter how he tries to fully articulate the pain and loss that he experienced, no one really can fully understand it. He is the sole survivor and I’m sure he feels all alone.
Have you ever felt alone? Ever felt that no one around you fully understands what you are going through? Not your spouse. Not your best friend. Not your family. No one. I’m sure that is what Nick Schuyler feels like. Have you ever felt like that?
Deuteronomy 31:6 reminds us that we really are not alone. The Lord is with us everywhere we go. And, as it says in today’s verse, because of his everlasting presence in our lives, we should not be afraid. I find such comfort in knowing that even when I feel like no one around me really understands what I may be going through, God does. I don’t have to even be able to articulate what I’m feeling and He still knows. I found that when I really embraced that concept, then I didn’t feel so alone anymore. And, I wasn’t afraid or terrified anymore either because I knew that I wasn’t really alone, that God was with me and knew exactly what I was feeling.
If you are feeling alone today, please remember that you are not alone. The Lord your God is with you and He will never leave you. Call on Him when you need someone to understand exactly what you are going through and exactly what you are feeling. And, remember that as long as the Lord is with you, you are not without hope.
