Today's Devotional Thought
June 12, 2013 by Rachel Piferi
Where do you go when you feel like you are just not measuring up? You know, on those days when you don't feel particularly disciplined, you don't have your thoughts under control, and you feel like the worst representative for Christ that you could possibly be.
I am sure you have had those days. Please don't tell me I am all alone in having days like this.
I think all women have moments, days, or even seasons where they feel like they just are not good enough and that they just are not measuring up. And many times, I think we look for ways to refute that awful feeling that we aren't valuable, that we aren't worth anything - we look for people, jobs, activities, or other things to tell us that we are worth it. That we are loved.
But do you know what, sweet friends? I have found that there is really only one place that we can go to completely refute that awful feeling that we aren't valuable, we aren't measuring up, or we are just flat out failing at this Christian life we are trying to live.
Let me tell you where I go in those moments when Satan tries to tell me that I am just not worth it. I go to the one place where I know I can hear truth about myself. Truth from the One true source of truth. The only source of truth, in fact.
I go to God's Word.
Friends, if you have days where you feel worthless, unloved, or failing, please know that those sentiments do not come from God. They do not come from the truth-giver who loves you like the cherished daughter that you are. Those thoughts of worthlessness and inadequacy are lies of the great deceiver. Designed to trip you up, slow you down, and run you off the course that God has you on.
And resist them with the one true source of Truth: God's living and breathing Word.
I want to share with you some of my favorite verses to thwart the attempts of the enemy to make me feel worthless, unlovable, and failing. May they encourage your heart today and may they empower you to feel strong in God's love for you and his adoration of you.
May God bless you and I pray you have a wonderful day safe in the assurance that you are mightily loved.
Psalm 139:13 -14, 17, 18
For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. How precious to me are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them! Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand. (NIV)
I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit. Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God's love and keep you strong. And may you have the power to understand, as all God's people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God. Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think. Glory to him in the church and in Christ Jesus through all generations forever and ever! Amen. (NIV)
Psalm 36:5 -7
Your love, O LORD, reaches to the heavens,
your faithfulness to the skies.
Your righteousness is like the mighty mountains,
your justice like the great deep.
O LORD, you preserve both man and beast.
How priceless is your unfailing love!
Both high and low among men
find refuge in the shadow of your wings. (NIV)
The word of the LORD came to me, saying, "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart. (NIV)
Can a mother forget her nursing child? Can she feel no love for the child she has borne? But even if that were possible, I would not forget you! See, I have written your name on the palms of my hands. (NLT)
But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved. (NIV)
The LORD appeared to us in the past, saying: I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with loving-kindness.(NIV)
1 John 4:10-11
Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another. (KJV)
Titus 3: 4-5
But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit. (NIV)
1 John 3:1
How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. (NIV)
Romans 8: 35-39
Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? As it is written: "For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered." No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord." (NIV)
