Today's Devotional Thought

Six years ago, my husband and I went on our first overseas mission trip. We traveled to Romania and spent a week in a village outside of the city of Timisoara. We worked with a local church and spent our days traveling from house to house with them telling the residents about Jesus and inviting them to church. Most of the Romanians that we worked with from that small country church spoke English, but the residents of the village did not. The Romanian team we worked with ranged in age from about 16 years old to over 50 years old. There was a doctor, a college student, a housewife, a pharmaceutical rep, and an aspiring pastor among their group. And in our group, there was a pastor, a computer programmer, a college professor, and an accountant.
We were very different culturally. But, we instantly clicked with them. Their energy and their hospitality was overwhelming.
And their love for Jesus was contagious.
I can remember one day we had a little bit of time before we had to go out and do our assignment for the day. And we were all sitting around the small country church talking and laughing and getting to know each other more.
And suddenly, we started talking about music and their group began singing familiar praise choruses in Romanian. The tunes were recognizable, but the language was foreign.
It was the most beautiful sound I had ever heard.
And in an instant the small, non-air conditioned village church was filled with the most glorious sound. As they harmonized and sang to Jesus, this small village church sounded like Saint Paulís cathedral, filled with the amazingly breathtaking sound of beautiful foreign voices praising Jesus.
This week, we embark on another mission trip. And I am eager to meet and work alongside another group of souls who love Jesus. There is simply nothing like meeting brothers and sisters in Christ who are very different from you culturally, but who share the one simple and glorious bond of the blood of Christ.
I ask that you pray for us as we travel. Wendy and I both are going on this trip this week and we look forward to sharing with you all how the Lord works. We will not be blogging this week as we will likely not have internet access. But we look forward to sharing it all when we return.
Please pray for our safety, our health, and that Jesus would be gloriously revealed this week. That souls will be introduced to Christ. And that we will come back changed because of Jesus.
