Give Me Jesus

When you wake up in the morning, what is the first thing you reach for? Is it your coffee pot? Is it your television remote? Is it your cell phone? Is it Facebook? Is it your Bible?

In the morning, when I rise.
In the morning, when I rise.
In the morning, when I rise.
Give me Jesus.

One of my favorite passages in the Bible is Philippians 4:12-13 where Paul clearly states the source of his strength (v. 13). And, as he is leading up to Christ being the source of his strength, he says that he knew what it was like to be in need, and he knew what it was like to have plenty. And, he learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want (v. 12). And that secret was Jesus.

Give me Jesus.

Like Paul, I have gotten to the point in my life where I have known what it was like to have plenty and I have known what it is like to be need. I know what it feels like to be alone and what it feels like to have many encouragers around you. I have known what it is like to reach for worldly things in the morning and I know what it means to be utterly dependent on Jesus from the moment the sun comes up until you fall asleep at night. And whether in plenty or in need, alone or with others, I want Jesus more than anything.

Sweet friends, my message today is simple. I want you to crave Jesus with every fiber of your body. I want you, whether in plenty or need, to wake up in the morning and say, "Give me Jesus." Like the words of this Jeremy Camp song, when we die, we will meet Jesus face to face. We will finally meet the One who died for us, hurts for us, and carries us through all of life's ups and downs. I don't know how that hits you, but that is simply amazing to me.

I know that I would not get through this life without Jesus. I hope you have that type of relationship and dependence on him also. I hope that you wake up in the morning and say, "Give Me Jesus."

You can have all this world. Just give me Jesus.
