Take Heart

Today's verse was given to me by a dear friend when I was going through a very trying time in my life. I wanted the Lord to fix what I was going through right then. I didn't want to have to wait. It hurt so much and the thought of waiting, well I thought it might kill me to wait.

When we face challenges in our life our first reaction is to pray and ask God to act quickly. I mean really, who wants to suffer or be in pain? Who wants to endure hardship or strife? We don't want to have to hurt in life. And we certainly don't want to wait for relief from that pain.

I have learned a life lesson that I want to share with you today. Now some of you out there reading this may have already learned this lesson. I have had to learn it through my trials.

If things were fixed right away, like we so often wish, then we would honestly miss out on what it is God is trying to teach us during those times of trials.

I don't know about you but when those times come I fall to my knees and begin to pray and I notice that my relationship with the Lord becomes strengthened. I realize in those moments where my help comes from, where my comfort and peace come from. Isaiah 55:8-9 tells us that God's thoughts are not our thoughts and His ways are not our ways. They are higher. Big surprise, I know! But, God does know what He is doing; it just doesn't always make sense to us. So we wait on the Lord while He strengthens us through those trials and difficulties and while he works.

David is a great example of someone in the Bible who we see waiting. He was anointed to be King at the age of 16 but didn't become King until He was 30. He faced many trials along the way to the throne. One of which was being chased by King Saul out of tremendous jealousy. God had a plan for David's life and he had to wait for it to unfold and in the waiting he was faced with many terrible circumstances. But in those he grew in his faith and trust for his Lord.

So why do we face difficult situations in life?

God has a plan and a purpose for us. I think that the hard times we go through strengthen us and grow us into the person we need to be to do what God has purposed for us.

Memorize this verse today:

"Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord."
~Psalm 27:14
