Today's Devotional Thought

Fix Your Eyes
I don't know about you but the Lord gives me verses at certain times in my life and they reappear and reappear and reappear. Last year there were MANY changes in my life. My daughter graduated high school, I went on my first mission's trip out of the states, and we registered, and took my daughter to college. I was a wreck and at times it felt like life was out of control and the Lord gave me...
Isaiah 41:10 - So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
Isaiah 41:13 - For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you.
I was so gripped with fear about going away and about sending my daughter off to college. Last summer, everywhere I turned, those verses were there. I would walk into a bookstore and they would be on some trinket or a bookmark. Someone would send me a card and that would be the verse in it. It would show up in my various readings and I knew that God wanted me to know that he saw me, he loved me and he would strengthen me to get through all the changes.
I made it through the mission's trip, through my daughter's first year of college and many other changes through this last year.
Recently the Lord has led me to another verse a familiar one for many of you I am sure but oh how I have needed it in my life.
Isaiah 26:3 - You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, whose thoughts are fixed on you!
This is in the new living translation I love the part where it says "whose thoughts are fixed on you!" There is so much going on in the world around us. There will always be difficulties; there will always be sickness and pain. We can focus on all of those things and be stressed, anxious and worried or we can choose to keep our focus on God, the author of peace.
As I searched for verses about peace I found one that I just love. It is John 14:27 - I am leaving you with a gift - peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give isn't like the peace the world gives. So don't be troubled or afraid.
The world believes peace to be absence of conflict. Let's just be real. When is there absence of conflict in our lives? There are numerous forces around us creating conflict, fear, doubt, sin, uncertainty to just name a few. But the peace that is mentioned in John 14 is an absolute gift from God. He gives it to us for it to fill our hearts so that there will be no fear. So that we will be able to endure the conflict while fixing our thoughts on him knowing that he is the source of the perfect peace we can have in our lives.
I don't know what you are facing today that has you feeling anxious, discouraged, worried or stressed. I pray that you will write down the several verses that were mentioned today in a journal or on note cards and memorize them. Know them by heart so that when you begin to feel as though your thoughts are drifting and anxiety and discouragement are climbing on your back that you can speak these words of truth and know that God gives us a peace that this world can't.
