Today's Devotional Thought
February 19, 2015 by Rachel Piferi
One of my favorite times of the day is early in the morning before everyone gets up.
It is still in my house early in the morning.
It is quiet.
And in that stillness, I can meet with the Lord.
And oh how I treasure that time knowing that the stillness is brief in this season of my life.
Once my children wake up, my life is not very still. In fact, it is very loud. It is a good loud, full of laughter and games and movies and sports and fun, but it is loud none the less. It is full of "Mom, look at this" or "Mom can I do this?" or "Mom will you get this?" And while I do cherish these moments, it is very easy to get distracted by all of the busyness of my children's lives. In addition to being a mom, the noise in my life also comes from other obligations both inside and outside of the home. Obligations that I love and also cherish. But obligations that none the less bring more noise.
And that is why I love the stillness in my house early in the morning. Before anyone who needs anything from me awakes, I can meet with the Lord. And in that stillness, I can get strength, love, and acknowledgment that my Lord is with me in whatever that day may hold. And oh how I love meeting with Him in the quiet.
If you are in a busy season of life, I urge you to not neglect your quiet time with the Lord. It is in that quiet that we get strength, peace, and direction to face our days. And if you feel pulled in a million different directions, then make time to pause and focus in one direction – to Jesus – so that you can be the most effective in the rest of your day.
I pray you all have a wonderful Thursday. Keep your eyes wide open for those moments that God has for you today that remind you that he is there and strengthening you each step of the way!
