What Do You Want?

What do you want this Christmas season? What do you want to experience, feel, and become this Christmas?

So often this time of year, our language is full of, "I need to..."

I need to buy a gift for my boss.

I need to run to the grocery store.

I need to put up my outside lights.

I need to go to Christmas Eve service this year.

I need to send my Christmas cards out.

I still need to buy a gift for my boss.

Lots of "I need to's." But, as I pause today, I ask, "What do I want to do?"

Now, at first take, it may be tempting to relinquish all responsibility and give a response of "I don't want to do anything. I want to put on my fuzzy socks, get under my heated blanket, and watch a Hallmark movie." And as enticing as that sounds {and honestly, I recommend you do it at least once this holiday season}, you really don't want to do that for the entire month of December. An occasional day here and there of that is great, but I believe we all want a bit more out of the Christmas season and out of life than that.

So, what do you want this Christmas season?

As I sit and reflect, I think about wanting...

I want to experience the extravagant wonder of Jesus choosing to leave all the privileges of heaven to be born a baby. Helpless. Dependent upon His mother. Fragile. Small. The very king of the world, born helpless. All for me. I want to have moments of being overwhelmed in my spirit by the fullness of that truth.

I want to experience the true love that Christmas represents. I want to experience it deep in my soul with Jesus and with my loved ones. I want the knowing glances with my husband, my kids, my family, my best friend that communicate to each other, "Man I sure do love you." I want those moments in my day when something spontaneously lovely happens and I just know it's Jesus saying, "Man I sure do love you."

I want to enjoy the fullness of life found at Christmas and not be hurried by the demands of the season. I want to pause. Reflect. Soak it all in.

I want to make Christmas sweeter and fuller and more special for those around me.

I want to be a better woman after this season celebrating the Savior's birth than I was walking into it.

I want joy.

I want peace.

I want love.

I want Jesus.

As we walk towards Christmas, we are going to be spending time each day being still with Jesus. And today, please take time to examine your heart and ask yourself what you really want this Christmas season. Jot the list down and each morning read through it. And ask yourself what you are doing to walk towards receiving what you really want this Christmas.

There is so much joy, peace, and love to be found this Christmas season. And Jesus is waiting to experience it all with you. It is truly the most spectacular time of the year, one where we have received the most amazing gift. Let's take time to truly receive it.
