Today's Devotional Thought

God Can Do Anything You Know!
I am a dreamer. I always have been. But, I don't just dream big. I actually think all things are possible. I can remember when my husband and I were first married and we would take the 7 hour drive from visiting family in Virginia to our home in Knoxville, Tennessee and we would just dream about all sorts of things. Dreams we had and how to make them come true. We would talk for hours.
And, we really believed that if we could think it up, then between the two of us we could figure out a way to make it a reality. Whatever it was, we believed.
I really credit my parents with teaching me that. In very subtle ways, they always made everything seem possible. If I could think it, then we could figure out how to make it possible. I will always remember sitting in my dorm room as a second semester freshman and calling my parents to tell them that I wanted to major in Psychology. I had just finished my first Psych class and was head over heals in love with the subject matter. I excitedly told them about how I wanted to get a Ph.D. and learn everything I could about this fascinating subject. And even though I was sitting there with a GPA that barely allowed me to continue on in my Bachelor's degree, they believed in me.
They talked me through it that night. And, instead of telling me that my C- in Introduction to Psychology was a good indicator that a doctorate was a bit unlikely for me, they asked me, "Okay, so what do you have to do to make that possible?"
And 8 1/2 years after that conversation, I walked across that stage to receive my doctoral hood.
I doubt they realize that they made all things seem possible. And, I doubt they realize how much that reflected the attitude of God.
God has promised us in his Word that he has amazing things for us to experience, to do, and to receive on this Earth. Jesus told us that he came to give us an abundant life (John 10:10). Paul tells us in Ephesians that we cannot even conceive of the amazing things he has for us (Ephesians 3:20). I believe with every fiber of my being that God wants us to live lives that are so radically sold out to him that we end up meeting people, going places, and doing things that we never could have imagined in a million years. Like a struggling college student who truly believed in the possibility of her dream to earn a Ph.D., I believe that God wants us to radically believe him to accomplish amazing things in and through us and just walk towards them.
And yet I am afraid that so many women really just don't believe.
Do you believe that God wants to use you on this Earth to do things that you never would have imagined or dreamed?
Do you believe that God has a specific purpose for you to accomplish that if you bought into it, and I mean really bought in, you would never be the same again?
Do you believe?
This is one of those topics that I am so passionate about that I wish you and I were sitting down at a table, face to face. With our coffee mugs on the table and Bibles wide open, I would take you to my favorite verses that tell our hearts that we need to believe in the amazing. Believe in the impossible. I would look you square in the eyes and tell you sweet friend to truly Believe that God wants to blow your mind in your relationships, in your struggles, in your goals, and with ultimately your life.
Do you believe?
I pray you do and that you are walking boldly towards whatever the Lord has for you, no matter how impossible it looks.
But if you don't truly believe, then may I encourage you to open your Bible today and let the Lord convince your heart, with the power of his Word, that all things are possible. I have put some of my favorite verses below. May they speak powerfully to you today. It is with such love and fervency that I share these verses with you. My heart's desire is that all women believe in the impossible and in the amazing and walk towards it today.
God can do anything, you know - far more than you could ever imagine or guess or request in your wildest dreams! He does it not by pushing us around but by working within us, his Spirit deeply and gently within us. (Ephesians 3:20, MSG)
I am the LORD, the God of all mankind. Is anything too hard for me? (Jeremiah 32:27, NIV)
Jesus looked at them and said, "With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible." (Matthew 19:26, NIV)
Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know. (Jeremiah 33:3, NIV)
God's voice thunders in marvelous ways; he does great things beyond our understanding. (Job 37:5, NIV)
Joshua told the people, "Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the LORD will do amazing things among you." (Joshua 3:5, NIV)
However, as it is written: "What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived" - the things God has prepared for those who love him (I Corinthians 2:9, NIV)
