Today's Devotional Thought
September 10, 2013 by Rachel Piferi
I will always remember the first day I stepped into a classroom at Johns Hopkins University. I remember being so excited, very awed, and extremely nervous as I walked into my first class and began to teach. Would the students know I just started here? Would they know I was only a little older than they were? Would they hear my heart beating so fast? Would they be smarter than me? They were future doctors, so surely they would already be smarter than I was.
I laugh as I look back. They weren't smarter than me. In fact, they respected me quite a bit. And, I don't think they heard my racing heart beat.
When I left academics and Wendy & I started our ministry, those familiar feelings came sweeping in again. Would women know I just started in ministry? Would they think I was too young to know anything about Jesus? Would they be smarter in the Bible than me? Surely, they would see right through me and think I knew nothing about Jesus.
I laugh as I look back.
I am coming to learn that there is only one thing that really matters to God: that I love him with my whole heart, walk with him daily, and share him (as best I can) with others. And my journey with him, whatever form it may take, is worthy of being shared with others. And your journey, your personal story of Jesus, is just as worthy of being shared. How you met Jesus. How you know Jesus. How he works in your life.
Some of us are older. Some are younger. Some are new Christians. Some have been Christians all our lives. Some are new to ministry. Some have 20 books on the shelves at Lifeway. But, we are all talking about the same Jesus. We are just sharing about him from our personal perspectives. And each perspective is valuable.
I can imagine listening to Peter talk about how he knew Jesus. Listening to Mary talk about how she knew Jesus. Listening to the Samaritan woman about how she knew Jesus. Listening to any one of the people he healed about how they knew Jesus. They all knew him differently, but they all knew him. And, no one could refute or argue with their story of how Jesus was real in their life. And each story provides such valuable insight into who Jesus is.
Don't ever let anyone think you are too young or too inexperienced or too new a Christian to know who Jesus is and to share him with others. Boldly share how you know Jesus with others today and let someone meet your Jesus.
