Today's Devotional Thought
September 19, 2013 by Rachel Piferi
Each day, Wendy and I write something from our hearts to share with all of you. We share stories from our lives, lessons from our study of the Bible, and ways that we are growing in the Lord. Over the past 4 years of writing to you each day, I have to admit, it is easier to write on some days than on others. Some days (and some seasons) of life are just harder than others. And it is difficult to pour out our hearts on those hard days (or in those hard seasons).
Some days are painful.
While some days are full of overt joy.
Some days are boring.
While some days are full of excitement and newness.
Some days bring guilt from mistakes made.
While some days yield an awareness of forgiveness.
Some days are lonely.
And some days are full of love from other people.
I heard Beth Moore say recently that life is a concoction of good, bad, ugly, celebrations, victories, defeats, pain, and joy. That life is full of so many differing experiences and emotions.
And, isn't that how your life is? I know that my life is such a concoction of ups and downs. Even a single day can be such a mixture of good and bad, failure and victory, pain and joy.
Life is so full. And in the midst of it all, God speaks.
I don't know what kind of season you are in right now. And I don't even know what kind of day you are having right now, but beloved girlfriends, I guarantee you that God is speaking. In the good, in the bad, in the ugly, in the celebrations, in the victories, in the defeats, in the pain, and in the joy, God is speaking right to you.
Can you hear him?
As I look over the past 4 years of writings, I can remember the seasons I was in when I wrote each one. Some were harder seasons than others. And in all of them, God was speaking right to me.
Today, I pray that you will take time to hear God speaking to you in whatever season you are in. I have learned that there is truly no sweeter sound than the sound of your Lord and Savior's voice. A voice that has told me that he would heal me when I was in pain. A voice that celebrated with me when I felt great joy. A voice that invigorated me when I felt dull. A voice that forgave me when I felt guilt for wrongdoings. And, a voice that reassured me that I was not alone when I felt so lonely.
Take time to hear him today. And rest in the beautiful sound of his voice in your life today.
