Today's Devotional Thought
October 30, 2013 by Rachel Piferi
As we gathered around the table last night, I smiled. We had women of all ages eating cantaloupe and chips, enjoying candy and cupcakes, and sharing stories from the last time we saw each other. And as I watched these precious women that I study the Bible with each week laughing and eating and relaxing, I could almost hear a collective deep breath coming from the room.
And for two hours last night, about 20 women got a break from the craziness of their days and their weeks and sat together in a small country church and learned more about the love that God has for them. Learned more about how God's ways are best. Learned more about the amazing life that He wants us to live if only we would take time to listen to Him and learn His ways.
Can't you just hear the collective deep breath of restoration and encouragement and love that comes to that room from Jesus each week?
It is in that room every Tuesday and Thursday as Wendy and I meet with the ladies of our church and the community to study God's Word. And I have to say it is the richest and most amazing thing I have ever been a part of.
For 3 1/2 years we have met together every Fall and Spring to study the Bible. We have studied Esther and Nehemiah and James and Malachi. We have studied the Beatitudes and Radical Obedience and how to find moments of gratitude in your day. And we have learned how to Break Free and how to be as silver refined.
And through it all, I have learned what it means to be a part of the sisterhood of Christ, learning, growing, and walking through life together.
If you are not a part of a Bible study, I urge you to find one in your area and join it. If you are in our area, then we would love to have you be a part of ours. But regardless of where you go, I implore you to join a group of women who study the Bible together. There is truly nothing like it and it will bring such joy, growth, encouragement, and refreshment to your life.
