Verse of the Day

"When Esther’s words were reported to Mordecai, he sent back this answer: ‘Do not think that because you are in the king’s house you alone of all the Jews will escape. For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father’s family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?’"

~Esther 4:12-14

Today's Devotional Thought

For Such a Time as This

For the past 10 weeks, Wendy and I have had the opportunity to lead two groups of ladies at our church in Beth Moore’s study of Esther. And I have to say I am a little sad this morning as our last session was last night and we have now closed the book of Esther.

What a great study this was and what an inspirational book of the Bible Esther is!

Today, I am really overcome with the concept of God’s providence. God is always in control. And even in this book of the Bible where God’s name is never written, he is present. And, he was working everything together to accomplish his plan of delivering his people. Much like those periods of life where we think God just isn’t there, he was. He was (and is) in control and working towards the fulfillment of his plan and promises.

And do you know what ladies? God will always fulfill his promises. Even in the most dire situations, God is in control and executing his plan. And, do you know what else? He wants you to participate with him. But even if you choose not to join him, he’s still going to fulfill his promises and his plans.

In Esther 4, Mordecai is informing Esther of Haman’s plot against the Jews. And he is pleading with Esther to intervene with the king to save her people. Towards the end of today’s passage, Mordecai utters the most famous words of the entire book. But, before he tells Esther that perhaps she was brought to her royal position for such a time [and purpose] as this, he tells her that God will fulfill his plan. And, God will do it with or without her.

I don’t know about you, but I would much rather be a part of God’s plan than just watch it unfold from the sideline. Just like Mordecai said to Esther, God will fulfill his plans for your community, for your church, and for those around you. Don’t you want to be a part of his plans?

Friends, you have been placed where you are to make an impact for him. He wants you to play a starring role in his plans for his people. And, you have been brought to this position for such a time as this. Embrace your position and your assignment and enjoy your place in God’s plan knowing that you have assisted your Heavenly Father in bringing his message and his love to the world. God loves you so much that he wants to use you and he even brought you to your position for such a time as this.

Memorize this verse today:

"When Esther’s words were reported to Mordecai, he sent back this answer: ‘Do not think that because you are in the king’s house you alone of all the Jews will escape. For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father’s family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?’"
