Verse of the Day

"The LORD will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail."

~Isaiah 58:11

Today's Devotional Thought

Happy Anniversary

A little over two years ago, two women sat in a food court at Potomac Mills. On a day full of fun and laughter and shopping, these two women began to talk sincerely with each other and began dreaming together. They were just getting to know each other and they both felt that God was creating something very special. They sat across a table and started talking about their recent life stories. They cried. They shared. And they started dreaming about writing a book together about how God can redeem our worst life circumstances and create such beautiful things from bad situations. They talked about how God can create new opportunities, new ministries, new lifestyles, and new friendships. And he can create it all out of bad situations.

A little over two years ago, a friendship and a ministry was born. And two years ago yesterday, on September 1, 2009, After the Miracle was born. It's mission was simple. We simply wanted to chronicle our journeys with God and share them with other women journeying through life. We wanted to share our painful moments, our joyous moments, our lessons, and our questions. And we wanted to do it because we felt God calling us to do it. And we felt he was calling us to do it together.

The very first devotion that we ever wrote was titled, In Your Tomorrows. And in this devotion, we wrote about how God goes before us and knows the pain and heartache that lies ahead. And that he is there, waiting to carry us through whatever pain may be in tomorrow.

As I reflect on the past two years of this ministry, I can recall many painful moments. Some were major life events and some were minor circumstances. And through all of them, God was there. But one thing that struck me as I was reading our first devotion was that God is in all of our tomorrows. He is in the painful tomorrows and he is in the joyous tomorrows. He knows everything that is coming and is there to carry us when we're weak and celebrate with us when we're victorious.

As I look at all of the tomorrows that came since 2009, I can see God's presence and his faithfulness so clearly. God has carried us and he has celebrated with us many times. I am thankful today that God placed a small dream in our hearts two years ago to begin sharing our journeys through this site. And I am very thankful that he knew exactly what our tomorrows were going to bring and continues to be in our tomorrows as we walk towards his plans for our lives and our ministry. As Ephesians 3:20 says, God has done things that we could not have even imagined in our wildest dreams during these last 2 years. His fingerprints can be seen all over our individual lives, all over our friendship, and all over our ministry. And as we celebrate two years of After the Miracle, I am awed at what God has orchestrated so far and at what he plans on performing in all of our upcoming tomorrows.

Oh how I wish I could give those girls sitting in that food court a little preview of what God knew was coming. He was in their tomorrows and he was waiting to carry them and celebrate with them. Oh how I wish I could tell them what was coming. Of course, they probably would not have believed me, even in their wildest dreams!!

Memorize this verse today:

"The LORD will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail."
~Isaiah 58:11
