Today's Devotional Thought

Rest
A trip on the ferry. A cinnamon sugar pretzel from Auntie Anne's. A quick tour through the Coach Outlet Store to drool at purses. Buying a new running outfit. A peppermint chocolate chip milkshake from Chick-fil-a. A soul level conversation about Jesus.
The perfect day with my BFF.
And exactly what my soul needed just as life was getting a little exhausting.
Has life gotten a little exhausting for you lately? Are you afraid to take a break because you think you will just get too far behind if you do?
Let me share with you a little lesson from a work-a-holic: It is okay to take a day and play. Not only is it okay, I believe that it is required.
And friends, that doesn't come from me. That is something that God has been whispering to me lately. So much so that he gave me a new perspective on a familiar passage today.
I was thinking about verses about rest and refreshment and he led me to Psalm 23 and my heart just camped on verses 2 and 3:
He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. (Psalm 23:2-3a).
I just love the picture of God "making me" lie down in green pastures and leading me to quiet waters. He knows that we need to feel refreshed and contented and taken care of. And, in this passage, we have such a beautiful picture of God leading us to contentment, quietness, and refreshment. He wants us to feel rested as much as he wants us to feel motivated and driven to work for him.
And sometimes, he just has to "make us" lie down in green pastures!
God will lead you many places in this world and one place that he will lead you is to rest and refreshment. Because, God knows that we need that.
Yesterday was just that for me. A restful day of fun and fellowship beside the quiet waters. And this morning, my soul is refreshed!
Let God lead you to lie down in green pastures of rest and contentment. Let him refresh your soul.
