She is Beautiful

I am a mother of a teen aged daughter. Need I say more? For you moms out there, even if your children are all grown, you will understand the words I write today.

My daughter is beautiful; she is a talented photographer, she is funny, loyal, and trustworthy. There is not a day that goes by that I don't see something in her that makes me smile. She brings me so much joy. I look at her and see how much she has grown up and how she truly strives to make good choices. I see how she loves her friends and is fiercely loyal to them. And I see how much she loves her father and me and her brother.

She is a junior in high school now and looking to go to Liberty University when she graduates next year. I find myself gripped with have I done enough as her mother to guide and direct her in life? And one of those areas that I have tried to guide her in is dating. Of course every mother prays earnestly for their child's spouse and I have done this since she was in the womb. And as she is getting closer to that age of being able to marry, I so strongly advise her to look at many things in any person that she chooses to date.

My desire for my daughter is that she will see herself as the precious treasure that she is. She deserves a young man who will love and respect her for who she is and not what he can get from her. She needs someone who sees the value in a relationship with the Lord first so that his relationship with her can be richer and stronger. I want a young man for my daughter who believes in her and what God has designed her to be and do. I want him to value her.

And, I know that not only I want this for my daughter, but that her FATHER in Heaven wants all of that for her too. I also know that he has created someone just like this for her.

Being the mother of a teenager has it's moments of, "I want to pull all of my hair out!!!!" It also has its moments of, "This is the greatest moment of my life!" While my feelings in the moment may change, what I do know is that God has given me a tremendous responsibility to raise this sweet girl in a godly home to be a godly woman. And it is a responsibility that I believe we all should take with great seriousness because our daughters and sons are a heritage form the Lord, a reward from him to be cherished and guided to be all they are called to be in his kingdom.

Memorize this verse today:

"Sons (daughters) are a heritage from the Lord, children a reward from him."
~Psalm 127:3
