Rolling with God's Plan
No matter who you are. No matter what stage of life you are in. No matter how successful you are in life. You will face disappointments.
Some seasons feel riddled with them. In big and small ways, we feel let down by life, by ourselves, by others, and maybe even by God.
What is disappointment?
For me, disappointment is any time that I am looking forward to or expecting a certain something to occur and then something else (in my mind something worse) occurs. It can happen in big and small ways in our life. We expect our teenagers to make the right decisions and then they tell us that they have made a bad choice. We work hard for a promotion or advancement at work only to find it is given to someone else. We look forward to a lunch date with a friend and our child gets sick and we have to cancel.
Disappointments.
They hurt. And they can leave us a little bit (or a lot bit) down when they happen.
So what do we do with them?
I have recently finished the book As Silver Refined by Kay Arthur. And in this book, she discusses disappointments (both big and small) and how our reactions to them are so critical to our walk with the Lord. Ultimately, she discusses how we should let these moments refine us to be more Christ-like and to recognize God's sovereign hand over everything.
Oh I can't even begin to tell you how disappointments used to level me for a period of time. If I was disappointed in my day (usually small stuff), I could sulk and sit upset that things did not go the way I had envisioned. And before I knew it, I had wasted my day.
Oh how Satan loves that.
But now, as a dear friend of mine says, I try very hard to just roll with it. And even though things are not going the way I had planned (or even desired), they are going the way God has planned. And as he tells us repeatedly, his plans are always good (Romans 8:28), are full of hope and a future (Jeremiah 29:11), and are so beyond what you could expect that it would blow your mind if he told you (I Corinthians 2:9). And, when I sulk or take myself out of the game for a period of time, I am missing what God has for me.
Oh how I don't want to miss what God has for me today or any day.
Don't let the disappointments that will arise today (and girlfriends, they will arise) rob you of joy today. And certainly, don't let them rob you of running towards the fulfillment of God's plans for you. Satan wants to sideline you and he will use everything he can to do it.
Don't let him.
Simply don't let him.
And today, just roll with it. Roll with God's perfect and beautiful plan for your day and for your life. You won't be sorry.
