Verse of the Day

"Similarly, teach the older women to live in a way that honors God. They must not slander others or be heavy drinkers. Instead, they should teach others what is good. These older women must train the younger women to love their husbands and their children, to live wisely and be pure, to work in their homes, to do good, and to be submissive to their husbands. Then they will not bring shame on the word of God."

~Titus 2:3-5

A Titus 2 Woman

Who was your mentor growing up? Did you have a woman in your life that showed you the things that are being mentioned in these scriptures?

I came across a short book today that I am just starting to read and these verses are the concentration of the book and as I read it I will probably share more with you.

I am asking questions today so we all can think about whether or not we are a Titus 2 woman. One of the things that I do in our church is lead in women's ministry along with Rachel. I would say that weekly we have women coming to speak with us. My prayer even in the moment is always Lord, let me speak your truth; let me speak with understanding and wisdom. Help me to be the godly woman I so desire to be and model.

If you are someone that other women come to I want to touch on one thing today. The last sentence of our scripture today says, "Then they will not bring shame on the word of God." If any of us are going to be mentors to other women then we have got to be in God's word. We must study the scriptures and know what they have to say about living this life in a way that honors God. We must model that for other women.

Don't gossip, no heavy drinking, teach what is good, love your husbands, love your children, live wisely and be pure, work in your homes, be submissive to your husband. Friends, these are all things that will honor God and show others that we are godly women. These are the things we should be teaching our daughters, granddaughters, and other young women around us.

I am very blessed. My mother taught me all these things by modeling them for me and teaching them to me. Sadly though, not all young women in our church or community have had mothers, grandmothers and other women in their families that have shown them what it looks like to be submissive to their husband or how to live a life where you are not gossiping about someone or cutting them up. They need mentors in their lives that can show them what it looks like to live a life in a manner that shows we are women of God.

I want you to think about that person in your life that has mentored you in becoming the godly woman that you are today. Drop them a note and let them know how much they have meant to you and how thankful you are for them. Then pray and ask God to help you be that mentor or example to someone else.

Memorize this verse today:

"Similarly, teach the older women to live in a way that honors God. They must not slander others or be heavy drinkers. Instead, they should teach others what is good. These older women must train the younger women to love their husbands and their children, to live wisely and be pure, to work in their homes, to do good, and to be submissive to their husbands. Then they will not bring shame on the word of God."
