Verse of the Day

"In my distress I called to the Lord; He answered me and set me free. The Lord is with me. I will not be afraid; what can anyone do to me? It is the Lord who helps me, and I will see my enemies defeated."

~Psalms 118:5-7

Prayer Changes Things

I remember as a small child being afraid of the dark. We lived in the country so there were no street lights to give off any light. I remember laying in bed and being so afraid because I saw what I thought were shadows of someone. I would lay there and play worst case scenarios in my mind of what would happen if someone grabbed me. I would fall asleep and wake up and find myself scared again. I remembered finally that I could pray and ask Jesus to give me peace and to protect me. It worked and to be honest I find myself even now waking up in the middle of the night and praying to the Lord. Not necessarily for being scared of the dark, but for so many other things.

Prayer is more than being scared in the middle of the night and needing assurance. Prayer changes things. I know that is an old cliché. To be honest, though, it is definitely the truth. I find myself everyday talking to the Lord about anything and everything. The older I get and the more I grow in my faith, I see the importance of it. When we are young we did the “get me out of this…..??? prayer. We didn’t really take time to pray and ask the Lord for direction and seek His face daily. As we mature and face life, we soon realize just how important it is to fall before the Lord and follow His direction in life.

We will all face those times of distress as today’s verse states. The important part is that we call out to the Lord. We don’t need to be afraid of those things in our life that come our way that we don’t understand. It is the Lord who helps us through those times and when we seek His face in prayer, He comforts us and strengthens us.

Even as I read what I just wrote, I shutter just a bit because I make it sound like it is just so easy: You pray and everything is better. I know it doesn’t always work that way. But, when things are tough and we are frustrated and don’t understand and maybe have thrown our hands up in the air, we need to stop and pray and ask God to give us peace in the midst of the storm. He is a big God and He can take anything we have to say. Just be honest with Him and tell Him how you are feeling and then ask Him to help you in your time of need. Ask Him to give you peace, strength, love and whatever else you think you might need to face what it is you are going through. I promise you that He will meet you where you are. He loves you and wants you to come to Him.

Prayer changes things. I know it does!

Memorize this verse today:

"In my distress I called to the Lord; He answered me and set me free. The Lord is with me. I will not be afraid; what can anyone do to me? It is the Lord who helps me, and I will see my enemies defeated."
~Psalms 118:5-7
