Getting Older
None of us likes getting older. I don’t care if you are 30 or 80 years old. There are signs that appear, it seems out of no where, that remind some of us that we are aging. It could be anything from gray hair to creaky knees to those stiff joints in the morning. I must tell you that I pulled my first white hair out of my head this morning and had a moment where I was rather sad and came to the realization that yes, I am getting older. Then my husband said something to me that made me stop and think. He told me that the Bible says gray hair is good.
Proverbs 16:31 says “Gray hair is a sign of splendor; it is attained by a righteous life.??? We should wear it proudly and realize because we are older we have wisdom and insight that those who are younger than us do not have. Our life experiences can help us to mentor those younger than us and to help them in their life as they grow in their faith.
I read something recently that said this, “Whatever age you are, it’s the right age for you right now. God has a purpose designed for you at this time of your life that is different from any other time of your life.??? I love that statement; it reminds me that at every age, God has something for us. When I was 20 years old, I sure wouldn’t have been able to do the things that I am doing now. I wasn’t mature enough and I wasn’t as strong in my faith. I think we need to embrace life at any age and realize that as we age we do gain insight into scripture, into life, and into so many other things.
What I hope none of us get caught up in is that we are too young or too old to do certain things. So we do nothing. In Matthew 7:17 it says, “Likewise every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit.??? What does it not mention here? It does not mention the age of the tree. This leads me to believe that age doesn’t matter. No matter what our age we can bear good fruit for the Lord.
I know that as we age certain things are more difficult, but I have been around older people who have been incredible prayer warriors and encouragers and can send cards and make phone calls that can lift up the younger ones and give them the encouragement they need to serve the Lord. Ladies, no matter what your age today I know that God has a plan and purpose for your life. Keep your ears open and be in the Word and the Lord will show you what your purpose is in His kingdom, no matter what your age.
