Verse of the Day

"At this, Job got up and tore his robe and shaved his head. Then he fell to the ground in worship and said, 'Naked I came from my mother's womb, and naked I will depart. The LORD gave and the LORD has taken away; may the name of the LORD be praised.'"

~Job 1:20-21

Blessed Be Your Name

When do you praise the Lord? Do you praise Him only when things are going well? Do you remember to praise Him in your suffering?

There is a song that I just love that many of you may be familiar with. It is Blessed Be Your Name and the reason that I like it is because it demonstrates through its verses this very concept. As you see in its lyrics, we are to proclaim God's goodness in the suffering and in the times of plenty. The word "blessed" means worthy of praise, or held in reverence, or worthy of worship. And, we are to praise the Lord all the time, regardless of our circumstances.

We see this theme early in the story of Job. And in today's passage, we see Job stating that God was always to be praised. In the suffering and in the good times, we should lift our voices to the Lord and worship Him. He is always, always, always worthy of our worship.

I want to leave you with the lyrics of Blessed Be Your Name. And, as you read them, sing the song aloud to Him if you know the tune. And, remember that God is always worthy of being praised. He is worthy when your streams of abundance flow and he is worthy when the darkness closes in. All the time, God is good and worthy of our praise. Blessed be His Name!

Blessed Be Your Name
In the land that is plentiful
Where Your streams of abundance flow
Blessed be Your name

Blessed Be Your name
When I'm found in the desert place
Though I walk through the wilderness
Blessed Be Your name

Every blessing You pour out
I'll turn back to praise
When the darkness closes in, Lord
Still I will say

Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your name
Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your glorious name

Blessed be Your name
When the sun's shining down on me
When the world's all as it should be
Blessed be Your name

Blessed be Your name
On the road marked with suffering
Though there's pain in the offering
Blessed be Your name

Every blessing You pour out
I'll turn back to praise
When the darkness closes in, Lord
Still I will say

Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your name
Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your glorious name

Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your name
Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your glorious name

You give and take away
You give and take away
My heart will choose to say
Lord, blessed be Your name

Memorize this verse today:

"At this, Job got up and tore his robe and shaved his head. Then he fell to the ground in worship and said, 'Naked I came from my mother's womb, and naked I will depart. The LORD gave and the LORD has taken away; may the name of the LORD be praised.'"
~Job 1:20-21
