Worship
When you hear the word, worship, what do you think of? Do you think of a service on Sunday morning? Do you think of your quiet time with the Lord where you praise him? Do you think of singing songs of adoration to him?
We have been called to worship the Lord and to serve him only. Why is that? Why are we called to worship him? Contrary to what you may think, God doesn’t need our worship. We haven’t been called to worship him and only him because he needs it. We are called to worship God because we need it.
Have you ever noticed how we tend to try to imitate people who we admire? Especially when we were teenagers, we had posters on our wall and would try to walk like, talk like, dress like, or be interested in the same things as our role models. We worshipped our teenaged role models and wanted to be just like them.
The same is true when we worship God. When you worship something or someone, you spend a lot of time with them, watching them and mimicking their actions and trying to be just like them. When you worship God, you do the same. As you worship, you naturally will spend more time with him, get to know him more, and become more like him. Worshipping God draws us closer to him and draws us to be more like him.
Our worship of God can take many forms, but regardless of the form that it takes, one thing is very consistent: we are called to worship the Lord. He is our God and we are under his care and we must publically and privately worship him. And, we are called to worship him so that we can become more aware of him, his works, and how to live in a way that pleases him and is like him.
For the next few days, we are going to explore worship. We are going to study what it means to worship, why we should worship, how we can worship, and examine the things in our lives that may be interfering with our worship of God. In this series, we encourage you to really examine your worship and how you can fully serve him and in doing so, strive to become more like him through your worship.
