Non-Traditional Worship

Yesterday was a beautiful day and I found myself engaged in spontaneous worship in a unconventional place. And, it was an uplifting, powerful, indescribable experience with God. And it happened in the most unusual of places and ways.

My husband and I bought a Mustang convertible many years ago and we held on to it even after our family got too big to all ride together in it. And, for the most part, it stays in the garage from about October to March. But, once the sunshine of spring reveals itself, the car emerges from the garage. It is a fun car. And yesterday, it was my sanctuary.

I had a few hours alone and wanted to spend it having an extended quiet time with the Lord. But, I didn’t want to just sit in my sitting area and have my traditional quiet time. I wanted to really immerse myself in Him and enjoy the splendor of Spring. So, I grabbed a couple of Christian music CDs, put the top down on the car, and drove around for most of the day. And, I had the most worshipful day that I have had in a long time. I sang. I prayed. I listened. And, I enjoyed the beauty of the world around me and just immersed myself in His creation. I really have no words to fully describe the experience except to say that I spent time with Him and savored it.

If you ask people where they worship, they are likely to tell you that they worship in a church. They are probably not going to tell you that they worship in a Mustang. But friends, worship is about experiencing God. It is about being in His presence and being in awe of his majesty. It is about feeling connected to Him and listening through that connection. And that can happen in a church, in your house, in a cave, or in a Mustang.

Don’t be confined by what you think worship traditionally looks like. Worship God today by enjoying His presence and extolling his greatness at all times and in all sorts of places.

Memorize this verse today:

"I will extol the LORD at all times; his praise will always be on my lips."
~Psalm 34:1
