Verse of the Day

"Jesus sent two disciples, saying to them “Go to the village ahead of you, and at once you will find a donkey tied there, with her colt by her. Untie them and bring them to me. If anyone says anything to you, tell him that the Lord needs them, and he will send them right away.??? ……. The disciples went and did as Jesus had instructed them. They brought the donkey and the colt, placed their cloaks on them, and Jesus sat on them. A very large crowd spread their cloaks on the road. The crowds then went ahead of him and those that followed shouted, ‘Hosanna to the Son of David!’ ‘Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!’ ‘Hosanna in the highest!’"

Are You a Donkey?

Today, we are going to touch on the triumphant entrance of Jesus into Jerusalem on what is called Palm Sunday. We see in scripture that He rode in on a donkey and her colt. This is very significant because the one thing that the people of that time thought was that Jesus was going to be their political leader. He was to be their great leader; he was going to lead them to conquer the Roman Empire. And, if he was their victorious leader he would have ridden in on a horse, a symbol of power. He didn’t, though. He rode in on a donkey, the very symbol of peace.

Let’s take a minute and look at these donkeys and the role they played in this entrance into Jerusalem. We see in the early part of our scripture that Jesus already knew that he wanted these donkeys, he was thinking of them. He then had a plan for them; they would raise Him up to be seen by those lining the streets when he entered the city. These donkeys were available for our Lord to use. They were exactly where they needed to be in order to be used by Jesus.

When I think about these donkeys I can’t help but think how much we are like them. Okay, let me explain before you start thinking that I am calling you all a bunch of donkeys in a not so nice way. Just like the donkeys, God wants us and is thinking of us. Before we were born, God knew us, he created us, and had plan and purpose for our lives. And, one of our biggest purposes in this life is to lift Jesus up to be seen by everyone around us. God wants to use us, friends. But, we must be available to Him.

Jesus has set us apart, just like those donkeys to do something amazing for Him. When we find our plan and purpose in this life, we need to lift Jesus up to be seen and understand that it’s not about us getting any glory and or credit for what we’ve done but that Jesus is always seen in everything we say and do.

Are you a donkey? Jesus wants you to be today. He wants to use you to lift Him up.
