Meditate on His Faithfulness
I love Psalm 77. In the first few verses of Psalm 77, the psalmist is groaning out to the Lord and you can feel the anguish and questioning and pain in him. In the beginning of Psalm 77, the psalmist writes about being distressed and stretching out to the Lord, but my soul refused to be comforted (v. 2).
It is raw and it is honest and it is clearly written from the perspective of someone who is groaning out to the Lord and not feeling comfort at the moment. What I love about the entire Psalm is that the psalmist turns his anguish into a meditation on God's faithfulness and on how He has worked in the past.
And, these verses are my favorite:
11 I will remember the deeds of the LORD;
yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago.
12 I will meditate on all your works
and consider all your mighty deeds.
13 Your ways, O God, are holy.
What god is so great as our God?
14 You are the God who performs miracles;
you display your power among the peoples.
Yesterday, we spoke about God’s faithfulness and how we can trust Him in any of our life circumstances. Similarly, in today’s psalm, we see how the psalmist chooses to meditate on God’s faithfulness to get him through his period of angst and discomfort.
If you are in a time of questioning and real angst right now, meditate on all His works and His mighty deeds. Remember His miracles. Declare to your heart that there is no god as great as our God. He is the God who performs miracles and He displays his power among the people. He has delivered His people in the past and He will be faithful to deliver you. Believe that.
God has proved His faithfulness before and He will be faithful to deliver you today.
