Today's Devotional Thought

Study God's Word
In almost every devotional I write I mention something about reading the Bible. The only way that we can really know God is by reading the Bible. God has provided his word for us to study, to know him better, and to also provide us with a guide on how to live our life.
I recently read something by Corrie Ten Boom that said this, “As you seek to build a deeper relationship with your Creator, you must decide whether God’s Word will be a bright spotlight that guides your path every day or a tiny nightlight that occasionally flickers in the dark. The decision to study the Bible, or not, is yours and yours alone. But make no mistake; the way that you choose to use your Bible will have a profound impact on you and your loved ones.???
Where is your Bible? Is it on a shelf somewhere in the house collecting dust or is it right beside your favorite chair or beside your bed?
There are so many ways that we benefit from being in the Word. The obvious one is just gaining knowledge of who God is. The other one is learning how we should live our lives as followers of Christ. The Bible is full of wisdom and guidance for us. We can read and learn about people in the Bible and how they handled situations in their lives. We can find scriptures that remind us of God’s love for us and his faithfulness. We can use the scriptures to encourage others.
Matthew 4 starts out with Satan tempting Jesus in the wilderness. Jesus says verse 4 to remind Satan that there is more than food that a man needs. When I read this it reminds me that we need to know the scriptures so that we can use them to battle Satan. Think about when you are going through a difficult time, more often than not, our minds start racing and before we know it we have gone to the negative. Wouldn’t it be great if you could start quoting scripture and change your whole frame of thinking? What if you have a friend that is going through a hard time? Wouldn’t it be nice if you could send them scripture to encourage them and uplift them and point them to Jesus?
Reading God’s word is life changing, not only for you but for those in your life as well. It’s your choice today. Are you going to pick up your Bible and start learning who God is and the way that He wants and desires for you to live? Or are you going to live life the way you want? My prayer is that you will decide that the only life worth living is a life that includes Jesus Christ.
