Lay Your Requests Before Him

The secret to a great relationship with the Lord is coming before him each day and laying it ALL at his feet.

I do my devotions in the morning before my day even gets started. I do this because my mind is fresh and free from problems of the day. I can then commit my day to him and feel sure that He is with me through every up and down I face in my day.

How many of us have been told that in order to have a good relationship with anyone we must communicate? In my marriage, I spend a lot of time talking with my husband and really trying to keep the lines of communication open. If you ask him, sometimes I talk too much about stuff that he probably doesn’t even want to hear about. But, he is stuck with me. In order to have a good relationship with my children, especially my teenager, I must do my best to keep those lines of communication open. The same is true with any friendship that I have in my life. I promise you that if you cease to communicate with those in your life whom you love, you will eventually lose them or your relationship will suffer greatly and you will find yourself growing apart.

Our relationship with the Lord is no different. You can read all through the book of Psalms and see David and the other authors pleading with the Lord or rejoicing in Him. David, I believe, was called a man after God’s own heart because he communicated with Him and knew His heart and knew how to live in a manner that was worthy.

If we crave a relationship with our Lord then we must find ourselves in His word learning more about Him and how to live our lives in a way that honors Him. We must be on our knees praising Him and praying to Him.

We do many devotions on spending time with the Lord. Rachel and I have both learned on our journeys that there is nothing in this world that can bring you the joy and happiness that a vibrant, growing, loving relationship with the Lord can. I love my family and friends and I feel tremendously blessed by the church we are serving in. All of that would be useless, if I didn’t share it all with the Lord. He is my rock, my strong tower, and my refuge.

Memorize this verse today:

"In the morning, O Lord, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait in expectation."
~Psalm 5:3
