Come Follow Me
“Come and follow me.??? This statement was said to Simon (Peter) while he was fishing and Scriptures tell us that he immediately left that boat and didn’t look back. This began his journey with Jesus.
Sometime later, another key statement was said to Simon Peter. He was told in Matthew 16:18, “And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.??? Peter became the first great leader at the church in Jerusalem.
What did Jesus see in Peter that made him call him a “rock????
We see throughout scripture that Peter is impulsive; he is definitely one to act before thinking. How many of us are like that, though? Just like us, Jesus chose real people to do his work. He was looking for people that could be changed by His love and to then share it with others. He was looking for someone to share that Jesus’ love is for everyone, no matter if you are a fisherman, tax collector, doctor, or a shepherd boy.
It doesn’t matter that we may fail in this life or make mistakes. Peter chopped off a soldier’s ear when they came to take Jesus away for his trial and crucifixion. While Peter was sitting out in the courtyard after Jesus had be seized and taken away, someone came up to him and made a comment about him knowing Jesus and he denied it. And he did that two more times. Peter was always making mistakes, but God knew his heart. All Jesus is asking of us today is “Come follow me.???
Are you willing to follow Him today? To leave behind your old life and pursue a new life? Yes, you may stumble and fall along the way and make some mistakes. But the wonderful thing about our Father and Lord is that He is so forgiving and loving. When we are unfaithful to Him, He is always faithful to us. Follow Him today with everything you got!!!
