Today's Devotional Thought

Yes You Can!
My head hung low and I watched as my tears slowly fell on the pages of the book of Philippians below.
"I just can't do it Lord," I pleaded.
"Yes you can," He replied.
"I can't...I really can't...I'm not strong enough," I cried.
"Oh sweet daughter, you can. I'll do it, you just need to muster the strength to follow me," He tenderly whispered.
Have you ever been there?
It seems I am there often. Sometimes it is big decisions and changes in life that I feel God is asking me to make and I think I just can't do it. It's too big! Other times, it is small ways he is asking me to behave and I just think that it hurts too much and I just can't act the way I know I need to. Even as recent as yesterday, I sat crying and telling the Lord I just didn't know how I was going to do what I knew he was asking me to do.
But in those moments of honesty with God, those moments where I hang my head and tell him that I can't do it, I always hear, "Yes you can." I have never once heard him answer my "I can'ts" with "Oh okay, you're right, you can't. Never mind."
I think one of the things I hear most often when talking with or counseling women about a variety of issues is the phrase, "I just can't." They often know what they are supposed to do and how they are supposed to act, but their bodies feel weak and their minds are convinced that it is just too hard to really do it the way that God wants it done.
Oh sweet friends, if God is asking you to act a certain way or do a certain thing, then you can do it. He will not ask you to do anything that he won't strengthen you to do. It may be hard, but you can definitely do it. He will guarantee it by getting personally involved in it.
I am sure yesterday was not the last time that I would cry on my Bible and say, "I just can't." And, I am so grateful that when I do say that to God, he lovingly reminds me that I can. And I can because of his living and active Spirit within me.
Oh beloved girlfriends, believe that today. Believe that you can!
