Today's Devotional Thought

Life is Short
Life is short. How many times do we hear people say this? I remember being in my 20's and thinking that life will last forever. We think that we are invincible when we are young. We never stop to think that a car accident, a disease of some sort, getting involved in drugs and alcohol, or a freak accident could happen to us.
Back in the fall, I wrote a devotional concerning my daughter's friend who passed away in his sleep due to a heart issue. It was devastating to my daughter and her friends and I believe made them all think about how fragile life really is. Since then, I have heard of many young people who have had untimely deaths.
How do we deal with that?
This weekend, we turned on our televisions and discovered that Whitney Houston passed away at 48 years old. Her cause of death has not been released yet, but we do know that she struggled with drug abuse for many years. She was an incredible artist and someone who I grew up listening to in my teen years. Her death was shocking and untimely, but once again, we come face to face with someone who perhaps thought she had finally gotten things under control in her life and looked forward to a long life surrounded by those she loved so dearly.
My husband recently told me a story of a pastor who was preaching to his congregation and telling them that they needed to get their hearts right with the Lord because you never know when you will breathe your last breath. He stepped off the stage and had a heart attack and died instantly. Shocking. But a reminder to us that life is just a vapor.
Friends, my heart is heavy and burdened for so many around us who walk through their days without Jesus in their lives. They find so many other things to fill the void that is in their hearts.
Many of you reading this today may be filling that void with food, drugs, alcohol or sex and you may claim to have a relationship with Jesus. But let me ask you a question. Have you surrendered to him and asked him to fill that void? He can only fill that void if you are pursuing a relationship with Him and cultivating it by reading his Word, praying and having meaningful conversations with Him concerning the things in your life that you are battling with. Then friends, get yourself into a church and surround yourself with people who will encourage you, love you, and help you on this journey of life.
The older I get the more I begin to realize that life truly is short and we are NOT guaranteed tomorrow. And when we take our last breath, we will face God, our judge and if we have not made things right with Him we will spend eternity in hell, separated from the one who created us and so desires a relationship with us.
What is your choice today?
You never know when you will depart from this world, so I am pleading with you today to make sure that you have made things right with the Lord and if you know you have, then I encourage you to grow in your relationship with Him and in turn reach out to others around you and show them the love of Jesus.
