Serve Others
In today’s passage from the book of Acts, we see Peter describing Jesus to Cornelius and a large crowd of people. And as he describes Jesus, he says that he went around doing good and healing. And he mentions that he did these things because God was with him.
If someone asked your friends, family, and coworkers to describe you, what would they say? Would they say that you go around doing good? Would they say that God is with you? Do your actions show others that God is with you?
Benjamin Franklin has been quoted as saying, “Serving God is doing good to man.??? As we see in this quote and throughout Jesus’ ministry, the way that we serve God is to serve people with love and good deeds. In fact, Jesus told his disciples that they became great by serving others, much like he came to the world to serve others and not to be served (Matthew 20:28). Jesus is described as going around doing good because he understood clearly how to act in a way that honored God: by humbling himself and serving others.
As you look at your life today, are you serving others or are you waiting to be served? Are you using your skills and talents in a way that gives to others and meets needs in those around you?
Do you want to honor and serve God? Then, serve his children. Look for ways that you can use your talents and skills to meet the needs of those around you. Take time to really notice people around you who need love, encouragement, and assistance. And then gladly offer yourself to others. And through your service to others, you will show them that God is with them.
Look for opportunities today to serve God by serving others. Strive to be someone who others describe as a person who went around doing good.
