Completion

We are doing some pretty major renovations on the house that we just bought. In fact, just about every room in the house is getting some sort of overhaul. Some of the things are minor like a fresh coat of paint and other things are more major like replacing our entire ceiling throughout the main living area.

When we started the renovations, I was pretty excited and ready to conquer each room and make the house exactly what I wanted it to be. But, as time went on, the budget became depleted, I became weary from all the work, and I started getting really disappointed that we weren’t making fast enough progress and my house was still a mess. And even right now, the renovations are not complete and I have days where I am really frustrated at our progress.

But, do you know what I do on those days when I think I will never make it through this whole-house renovation? I go visit my oldest daughter’s bedroom. Now, her bedroom is girlie with a capital G! The walls are all painted pink – and I mean Pepto-Bismol pink! She has white trim and white furniture, a multi-colored pastel ceiling fan with flowers on it, and a host of fuzzy pillows in shades of pink, purple, green, and blue on her bed. I happen to really love her room!!

Do you know why I visit it when I get frustrated? I visit it because it’s done. It was the first room we did and it is finished and pretty. And, it encourages me to see a finished product when the rest of my house is still undone and such a mess.

What do you do when you start getting frustrated with the messes in your life? Do you have times when you start feeling like you are not making fast enough progress on a goal you have or maybe you’ve been praying for God to work in some area of your life and you just don’t feel like it is happening fast enough. Does your life feel undone at times? What do you do?

Beloved friends, when I get frustrated with my life, I do much the same thing I do with the renovations on my house: I visit a room of my life (past or present) that feels complete. I visit a past situation or time period when I felt God’s presence so strongly and can see His faithfulness. And I remember how He worked and completed me in that situation. And, I am encouraged to press forward on the renovations of the part of myself or my life that still feels incomplete because I visited a part of myself or my past where God was so faithful to see me through to completion.

As you explore your own life frustrations and renovations, remember to reflect on God’s faithfulness when you begin to feel overwhelmed. And, reflect how He has worked in the past and how He promises to complete the good work that He is doing in you.

Memorize this verse today:

"Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus."
~Philippians 1:6
