Bow Down & Worship

When is the last time you bowed down before the Lord? And, I mean really bowed, face down, prostrate before Jesus?

In Matthew 2, we see the wise men coming to worship Jesus. They have seen the star and followed it to the Savior. They know the prophesies and they are well aware of the importance of this child. And when they entered the house and see the child with his mother, Mary, they bowed down and worshipped him (v. 11).

I like to imagine what it must have felt like to be in the presence of Jesus. Even as a child, there must have been such power in his presence. And, I can imagine that upon meeting him, you couldn’t help but fall on your face in reverence and worship.

Merriam Webster defines the word prostrate as “stretched out with face on the ground in adoration or submission.??? Have you ever done that before the Lord? Have you ever stretched out on the ground before Jesus in utter submission or adoration? Have you ever worshipped him, cried out to him, or simply laid at his feet this way?

The wise men came to do just that. They came to worship him, adore him, and bow face down in utter submission to Jesus. And, I can only imagine what it must have felt like to be in his physical presence that day.

Beloved friends, I encourage you to find time this busy holiday season to lay prostrate in front of Jesus. Take an afternoon or a couple of hours and just lay before the Lord and worship him. If you are burdened this holiday season, then lay before him in submission and ask him to carry the weight of those burdens. If you are not burdened this holiday season, then lay before him in adoration and praise him for everything that he has given to you and been to you in your life.

Jesus wants us to come to him this holiday season. And like the wise men, we should come to him to worship him and lay at his feet in submission and adoration. Lay before Jesus today and fill yourself with his mighty presence as you rest before your Savior.

Memorize this verse today:

"On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh."
~Matthew 2:11
