Today's Devotional Thought

Mary Said Yes
What do you think you would have said to the angel if he just told you that you were going to be the mother of the Savior of the world? Today’s verse is Mary’s response to the angel when he appeared to her to tell her that she would be Jesus’ mother. The angel told her that the Holy Spirit would come upon her and she would conceive a son and he should be called Jesus.
Mary’s response to this has always amazed me and it is different than how others have responded. There are other women in the bible who the Lord promised a child. There is Sarah who in her old age was told she would give birth to a son and she laughed. There was Zechariah who was told that Elizabeth would have a son and he doubted and the Lord silenced him until the birth of John the Baptist. When we look at Mary’s response, though, we see that she did not waver. She told the Lord that she was his servant and may it be like He said.
How do we respond when the Lord comes to us and asks us to do something? Perhaps it is something that we think is impossible or perhaps unexplainable to those around us. Do we laugh at him or try to reason with him and eventually doubt him? We can always justify to the Lord why we can’t do something or why something may be impossible. But I believe ladies that when we do that, He likely just shakes His head because He is disappointed that we don’t get it yet. You see, God may ask us to do the impossible, just like Mary conceiving without being with a man, but the part we often fail to realize is that with God all things are possible. When God comes to us and asks us to do something, He is waiting for us to ask Him for His strength and power to do that which He asks.
Mary had the perfect response. She said “YES!??? Ladies, when God asks you to do something for him that in the moment seems impossible and maybe doesn’t make sense, just trust Him and be obedient….say “YES!???
