In Time

My vacuum cleaner has been sitting in the corner of my living room for about 6 days. I took it out originally almost a week ago to well, vacuum. And then one thing led to another and every crisis known to a 12, 8, and 4 year old emerged. So the vacuum sat there.

And sat there.

And sat there.

And over the past week, every time I saw it, I got more and more frustrated. Because I wanted to vacuum. {I am one of those odd people who actually likes to clean}. But a lot of other more important things kept emerging that kept me from vacuuming.

And I started getting frustrated at the mere sight of the vacuum sitting in the corner because I started feeling like I couldn't possibly do all that I wanted to be doing.

Ever been there?

I am quite certain you have been.

As I was venting my frustrations to the Lord about not feeling like I can possibly do everything that I feel I am supposed to be doing, I heard him gently speak Ecclesiastes 3 into my spirit. I recommend you read the entire chapter, but it starts like this, There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens. Then it goes on to talk about many things that have their time.

If there is anything I have learned on this journey, it is that God's timing and God's plans for my life, my day, and even my hour are sometimes different than my own. He has things he wants me to do that may not coincide with my plans. And I have seen him time and time again present me with his plans and then provide a way for me to accomplish all that I am supposed to accomplish exactly when I am supposed to accomplish it. And in the end, his plans for my life, my days, and my hours are always better than my plans.

Always.

Today, I urge you to not get discouraged if your day does not go as you have planned. But instead, ask the Lord to show you what it is that he has for you that day. You'll get everything done that you're supposed to get done...in time. And more importantly, when you follow God's plans throughout your day and not your own, you'll do some work for the Kingdom that you didn't even have planned for that day! And that is a whole lot more important than vacuuming!

Oh and by the way, I did vacuum my living room. In fact, right before I sat down to write this. See, everything gets done. Just maybe not always in my timing.

Have a great Tuesday everyone and see what God wants to do with your day!

Memorize this verse today:

"There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens."
