Today's Devotional Thought

What Love Is
I remember there was a song in the 1980's that was titled, "I Want to Know What Love is." It was a popular song and one that played and played on the radio. I haven't heard the song in years and the title of the song popped back into my head yesterday as I was thinking about Valentine's Day and as I was thinking about love.
Do you want to know what love is?
Countless theories of Psychology tell us that being loved and accepted are essential to healthy development. They are essential to life satisfaction. They are essential to good relationships.
And I would agree.
I agree that feeling loved is essential to an emotionally healthy life. But I would take it one step further. I would argue that even if we are loved well by people on this earth, we only really know true love and acceptance when we know Jesus. And we are only able to fully love others when we have gotten to know his love.
Do you want to know what love is?
Then get to know Jesus.
There is simply no love like our Savior's love. As we celebrate love today, I want to encourage you to go to the only source of real love. Regardless of what may be swirling around you on this day of love, you can get true, real, everlasting, and genuine love from Jesus. And that is something to celebrate today.
You can know what love is. It is God. It is a Savior who died for us. It is a Savior who walks each day with us. Loving us through everything.
It is so beautiful to be loved like that. And as I spend time in Scripture, I can feel that love just leap off the page. And as wonderful as that love feels, it feels even better to give it away. You see, once you know the love of Jesus and really feel it deep in your soul, you can then fully love others.
You want to love others.
And as John tells us in I John 3:16, you will be able to love like Jesus loved. You can lay down your life in service and commitment to others. You can die to your own desires and wants in a relationship. And you can fully and truly love those around you.
Jesus loves you so much. And because of that love, you can love others. Celebrate that today, this Valentine's Day.
We love you sweet friends and wish you a day full of the realization of God's love today.
