Today's Devotional Thought

You are Beautiful
Who is the most beautiful person that you know? If you are thinking of physical beauty, then you may have thought of an actress in Hollywood or someone who is simply stunning in their physical appearance. They may dress very well, have the perfect smile, flawless skin, and be exactly the appropriate weight.
Do you know who the most beautiful people I know are?
They are the people in my life who emulate Jesus Christ. They are loving and caring and just gorgeous in how they treat people. And while they may be beautiful on the outside, as I get to know them more, they become even more and more beautiful to me for who they are on the inside.
Peter tells us in today's scriptures that your beauty should not come from your outward appearance. After all, our outward appearance is fleeting. Instead, our beauty should come from our inner self and as Peter writes, 'the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit.' It is that type of beauty that is of great worth in God's sight. And, it is that type of beauty that I have grown to admire so mucy in those closest to me.
I have seen many beautiful people in my lifetime. But the most beautiful people that I have ever known are those who simply radiate the love of Jesus Christ. They are the ones who have a heart like the Lord. And, much like David is described in I Samuel 16, we should not merely look at outward appearance: "Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart" (v. 7).
Tell someone today that you think they are beautiful. And tell them that while their outward appearance may be pleasant, it is their inner beauty that is breathtaking and of great worth in both God's and your sight.
