Verse of the Day

"Hear my cry, O God; listen to my prayer. From the ends of the earth I call to you, I call as my heart grows faint; lead me to the rock that is higher than I. For you have been my refuge, a strong tower against the foe. I long to dwell in your tent forever and take refuge in the shelter of your wings."

~Psalm 61:1-4

Today's Devotional Thought

He is Listening

Have you ever been at a point in your life where you felt like the punches kept on coming? I’ve had one of those weeks. And, I opened my bible one morning and told the Lord that I really needed a scripture to cling to right then and today’s verses are the verses that He gave me.

When we face those dark days, it can sometimes feel as though we are so alone. These verses were written by King David as he cried out to the Lord. What I love about King David is how honest and up front he always was with the Lord. What’s even greater is that we can be that way with our Lord as well. He knows what we are going through and as I have said many times in previous devotionals, He is waiting for us to come to Him.

What I want to touch on today is that when those dark days come we need to be careful that we don’t stay there. In our flesh, many of us just want to stay in that pit of despair, so to speak. But what I strive very hard to do when I’m down is focus on where I’ve come from. You see, many of us have been through dark days before. We’ve struggled and come before the Lord and we’ve found Him to be our strong tower and our refuge. He has protected us and strengthened us and brought us through. And, we need to remember that as we face new trials. God is always faithful!! He will get us through whatever painful situation or trial we face.

God may not choose to remove the trial from us and we may need to go right through the middle of it, but there is comfort that comes from knowing He is going through it with us. We have a comforter in Him. Rest in Him today if you are facing something that is painful.

I know that there are many this holiday season who will experience celebrating this season without a loved one. And that is painful. Let me tell you that you have a comforter that you can call on, someone that can share your pain with you and that you can go to and tell your hurts to.

Whatever you are facing today, let your focus be on Jesus Christ. He has brought you through before and He will do it again. Just trust Him.

Memorize this verse today:

"Hear my cry, O God; listen to my prayer. From the ends of the earth I call to you, I call as my heart grows faint; lead me to the rock that is higher than I. For you have been my refuge, a strong tower against the foe. I long to dwell in your tent forever and take refuge in the shelter of your wings."
~Psalm 61:1-4
