Verse of the Day

"When they had gone, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream. "Get up," he said, "take the child and his mother and escape to Egypt. Stay there until I tell you, for Herod is going to search for the child to kill him." So he got up, took the child and his mother during the night and left for Egypt, where he stayed until the death of Herod."

Unusual Places

Have you ever noticed that the Christmas story is full of people going places that they wouldn’t normally go, because the Lord told them to go there? The Wisemen came from the East, following a star, and then returned home by a different route because they were warned by God in a dream. The shepherds came to a stable in Bethlehem because an angel of the Lord told them that they would find the Savior in a manger. And, Mary and Joseph went to Egypt after Jesus was born because the Lord told them to Get Up and Go!

Has God ever told you to go someplace that you wouldn’t have ever expected that you would have ended up? Are you spending Christmas in that place this year?

I think that what we can learn from this story (and perhaps from our own lives), is that when you follow God to unusual places, you may find such a gift when you get there. God does always know best. And in the Christmas story, for those who listened, they were saved from danger or blessed in amazing ways. Imagine the blessings that the shepherds would have missed out on if they didn’t listen to the strange advice to look for a baby in a manger. And, imagine the blessings you might miss out on if you don’t follow God to unusual places.

God may tell you to go to unusual places. And, these unusual places could be actual new homes, they could be new jobs, new churches, or new friendships. But, regardless of the form that these unusual places take, if the Lord is telling you to go, then you should go. And, maybe you will be blessed immediately when you arrive and maybe God's plan will take some time after your arrival to unfold. But, in His time and not ours, you will be blessed immensely when you have gone to the place that the Lord has sent you.

Memorize this verse today:

"When they had gone, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream. "Get up," he said, "take the child and his mother and escape to Egypt. Stay there until I tell you, for Herod is going to search for the child to kill him." So he got up, took the child and his mother during the night and left for Egypt, where he stayed until the death of Herod."
