Prophecy of Christmas
Today’s passage of scripture is speaking of Jesus being born in Bethlehem. Micah knew 7 centuries before He came, that Jesus was going to be born and that the location would be Bethlehem. The part of that scripture that says ???whose origins are from of old, from ancient times.??? This is referring to Jesus being eternal. He would enter this world as a baby, but Micah knew, and was trying to tell the people of Jerusalem, that he had been alive forever.
As I have studied the Christmas story this season, it has truly come alive to me and I am in awe of how there is prophecy in the old testament about His birth and obviously we see it play out in the New Testament just the way it had been foretold. I find it very ironic that those Micah who spoke to concerning this miraculous birth would become his greatest enemies generations later as they see this prophecy fulfilled. When this Messiah that they had long awaited and prayed for arrived, they didn’t even recognize him.
How about you, do you recognize this baby who grew up, lived a sinless life and then was crucified for our sins? Chances are you’ve heard about him. Maybe you’ve gone to church, but have been hurt and now you don’t see the point of going to church any longer. Maybe you’ve heard about Him, but really haven’t seen a need for Him in your life.
My friend, life is a series of ups and downs and yes, maybe you have been hurt in a church by someone or some situation or maybe your life has been good and you don’t see the need for a Savior. But, there is security in knowing that you have a Savior, someone to lean on and gain strength from when those ups and downs come. Even if your life is great today, there are no guarantees that it will be tomorrow. And, having someone in your life who brings you security and unconditional love can really put your mind at ease and give you tremendous peace. If you aren’t acquainted with this baby from Bethlehem or it’s been awhile since you’ve recognized His presence in your life, I think the greatest gift this Christmas that you could receive and give would be to place your faith and trust in Him this season.
