Today's Devotional Thought

Rest in Him
Everyone needs rest. I know that today's verse is talking about how we should come to the Lord with all of our worries, our concerns, our sin and lay them on Him and that when we do this, we will find true rest, rest that can only come from Him. But today I want to talk about something a little different. I don't want to take this verse out of context, but I do want to talk about the importance of taking time out and resting and refueling ourselves.
This past week my family went to Nags Head and spent time together playing in the waves, eating, playing laser tag, eating some more, shopping, eating even more, and most importantly, we just laughed together while playing our family's favorite games. Our last night there, I sat and just watched my husband and kids laughing and enjoying our time together. I loved this week. Every moment of it.
Every morning, I found my way out to the front porch with my coffee, my Bible, my journal and Beth Moore's Breaking Free book. I sat in my chair on the front porch and spent time with the Lord. Because I was on vacation, there was nothing pressing that I had to do or any place that I had to be. I just read and read and prayed and wrote and filled myself up with the Lord. I was so encouraged everyday by just being in his Word and taking the time to listen and learn. Now, I do read and pray and write everyday when I am home, but to do those things when I was away from all the distractions in my life was quite simply just sweet fellowship with Him.
I know that not everyone can get away and spend time with the Lord at the ocean or someplace else that is relaxing. It is very important, though, that everyone finds time in every day to spend with the Lord. When we find that special time with Him in our days, to just read His word and listen for His voice, He will fill us up and give us what we need to face each day and whatever we will encounter in it.
If you are fortunate enough to get away this summer, please take advantage of it and find time in your day to spend with Him and make it very special. If you are home for the summer, then please find time in your day that is just for Him, time to read and write and listen for His voice.
He is waiting for you in that familiar place, that place that is just for you and Him, don?t keep Him waiting.
